This gel, or the air spaces inside the disk, act as shock absorbers, protecting the spine from damage. Over time, however, this hydrophilic gel can become damaged by repetitive movements, such as the twisting and bending of the spine. This gel can also get squeezed out or squeezed down by the body’s weight, causing the spine to become misaligned.

– Eat Healthily: We all know that eating right keeps us healthier in many ways, but not all of us are aware of the research that has shown how eating healthy proteins can help to reduce the risk of injury, increase energy, and in turn, improve the health of the spine. Eating a healthy diet is very important for your back since it can help prevent degenerative joint disease, joint replacement, and even cancer.

– Drink Water: Some people think that hydration is not as important as we think it is. However, this is not the case. Your spine has to stay hydrated as well as your muscles to move properly. This is why people who drink water regularly tend to have a better and healthier spine and muscle function than those who don’t.

– Don’t Lift Heavy Objects: Humans have a natural inclination to pick up heavy objects. This comes from a desire to be strong and a need to carry objects, but it is a trait that can be a problem for those who do not have strong bones or who have been injured.

– Don’t sit all Day: If you’re sitting at a desk all day long, you’re neglecting your spine’s natural curves, which can lead to back pain. Likewise, ignoring the natural curvature of your spine can lead to serious health problems, including cancer. Just like your spine, you need to find the right balance between sitting and exercising. First, find the minimum amount of time you need to keep moving. If you can get by without sitting for more than eight hours, you may be able to sit less, especially if you work at a computer.

A healthy spine means the bones, muscles, and discs in your spine are all strong enough to support your body, keep your body feeling balanced and help you stay upright. As we age, our spines naturally become weaker, causing our backs to ache and our muscles to stiffen.
